My interest in horses can be traced back to my childhood when I would saddle up my pony named Daisy and ride around the farm with my mom. When I got a little older, my mom would arrive home from work to find two horses saddled and ready to go. Those horses really took care of me; they were very gentle.

During my high school years, when those horses were gone, my attention turned toward sports. My interest in horses was rekindled when I helped out at a Rodeo Bible Camp in Desoto, KS and met a horse clinician by the name of Harry Whitney. A horse owned by a neighbor caught my eye during this time, but I discovered that the horse had a few behavioral issues that I had never encountered in my previous horse endeavors. Harry encouraged me to think about a horse from their point of view and helped me get started on the right track. He continues to help guide and direct me in my pursuit to greater understand the horse.

As I learned more, my interest grew into a passion and I soon began working with other horses besides my own. Currently, I travel to people's farms, training their horses while helping them understand why their horse behaves the way it does. One of my goals has been to help people understand how good life can be with their horse; a relationship without resistance.

We often ignore the signs that our horse is giving us, that he is uncomfortable with a situation. Then, when he reacts, we punish him for his natural flight instincts. We must be attentive to what our horse is telling us and help him through the situation, not react to it.
